Visiting Longmead Stadium

Tonbridge Angels’ Longmead Stadium is an excellent venue to watch football with facilities including; sizable covered terraces behind both goals, nearly 800 seats in the main (West) stand running almost the length of the pitch, plus a comfortable clubhouse with fully licensed bar. Real ale is usually on sale and as a point of interest for the keenest aficionados of the cask craft the Angels host an annual beer festival.

In the ground, there are the usual amenities and services including refreshment outlets, club shop, toilets and an Executive Suite for officials, visiting directors, premium members and other VIPs.. A separate Sponsors Lounge is now available to recognise those individuals and organisations who donate generously to the club. Please note that the refreshment kiosks will generally not be available for Reserve and Youth team matches. However, tea and coffee will always be available in the clubhouse bar.

Longmead Stadium meets the grading benchmark for the second tier of non-league football (National League South) so it is well appointed. Tonbridge compete in the Premier Division of the Bostik League and are aiming for at least the play-offs.

The Angels are very much a family-friendly outfit and have recently become a fully-fledged community club.

Getting to Longmead

Public transport

Tonbridge Railway Station (Southeastern) benefits from an excellent train service and is at the junction of four routes, which makes it accessible from most parts of the UK.

The usual timetable serves places along the following routes (operator South Eastern, website http://www.southeasternrailway.co.uk

London and Sevenoaks six trains an hour

Ashford and the Kent Coast two trains an hour

Tunbridge Wells four trains an hour

Hastings Line two trains an hour

Maidstone, Strood and connections to North Kent one train an hour

Redhill and connections to Brighton(Southern) one train an hour

Longmead Stadium is approximately a mile and a half (45/50 minutes’ walk) from the station.

There is a taxi rank at the station (turn right on exit). A cab ride is about 10 minutes.

Buses

Buses serve the nearby housing estates, with the nearest stop served by regular services (approximately every 15/20 minutes) known as “The Pinnacles” (a former pub now a housing development).

Services, which can be changed, are operated by Arriva, so information will be on the company’s website http://www.arrivabus.co.uk/southeast

The route numbers are usually 218 and 219 and drivers will advise the nearest stop.

A journey planner on Arriva’s site enables users to type in the time they are likely to be travelling. The departure point is usually Tonbridge Rail Station “Stand Stop H” with the destination shown as “Cage Green, The Pinnacles”.

Please be aware that buses after midweek evening matches are very limited. A taxi bookable at the train station may be a better option.

Directions on foot from the railway station

Turn left outside the station and walk the length of the High Street, continuing in this direction passing Bordyke (traffic lights) until reaching Tonbridge School (on the left). Cross the road at pedestrian crossing near the school entrance and proceed in the same direction, going straight ahead towards Shipbourne Road (this road starts at a set of traffic lights).

Ignore the branch to the left (London Road) and walk for approximately 10 minutes up Shipbourne Road, until reaching a mini-roundabout (junction with Dry Hill Park Road to the left and Yardley Park Road to the right).

Cross the mini-roundabout and return to the other side of the road. Continue in the same direction (towards North Tonbridge) for a few more minutes, then take the second turning left into Welland Road (just passed the Royal Oak pub).

Go down the steep hill on Welland Road and at the bottom, turn right into Long Mead Way. Stay on this road, (about half way along it bends to the left then right, before straightening out again). At the end of Long Mead Way you will come to a junction with Darenth Avenue. The entrance to the stadium is on the left (will see the gates and large car park). Head along the path through the middle towards the white buildings. The turnstiles are on the left-hand side of the clubhouse.
