On Saturday 9th December the clubhouse at Longmead normally a socialising area with bar will be transformed into a fully workring operational heart screening clinic.
Tonbridge Angels is hosting and funding another Football Fightback session whereby anyone between the ages of 14 and 35 can book in advance and be tested for an undetected heart defect.
The screening is facilitated by Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) a charity dedicated to reducing the numbers of young people who die suddenly and needlessly from undetected heart issues.
Football Fightback is a fund launched by Tonbridge Angels that followed the sudden deaths of two of their younger players from undiagnosed heart disease. The Club vowed at that point that they would do all they could to try and ensure that there would be no repetition of these tragedies. The generosity of supporters, residents of Tonbridge and local organisations resulted in enough money being raised that meant that not only all their own players could be screened, but also other sports clubs and the general public.
In this respect anyone between 14 and 35 should visit http://www.testmyheart.org and follow the simple links to book their own screening session. A range of times is available between 9 30am and 3 50pm but the advice is to confirm a booking as soon as possible as these events generally end up being fully subscribed.
STOP PRESS; THIS SESSION IS NOW FULLY SUBSCRIBED BUT THERE IS A WAITING LIST IN OPERATION IN CASE OF CANCELLATIONS. PLEASE GO TO THE WEBSITE LINKED IN THE PREVIOUS PARAGRAPH FOR DETAILS.
