Tonbridge Angels, West Kent’s senior football club and Tonbridge Junior FC with over 550 boys and girls playing football between the ages of 5 and 18 now plan to merge their Youth development sections. Both clubs believe this new Youth section will create a real football powerhouse in West Kent and be a catalyst to deliver future benefits to the respective clubs.
Reg Spicer, Founder and Chairman of Tonbridge Junior FC which celebrated its 25th anniversary year this season commented: ‘TJFC is a grassroots” Football for all Club” but it wants to develop playing opportunities and a pathway of excellence for suitable players at a higher level, and in association with its West Kent Football Training Academy, this merger will enhance this objective.
Tonbridge Angels is launching a new U18 Academy development centre and the club’s newly appointed Chairman Dave Netherstreet commented: ‘We as a board have developed a very progressive three year plan for the club and a key element of this plan is Youth football development. This merger will catapult this element of our plan forward and be excellent for junior football in the region.
To recognise this event Tonbridge Angels 1st X1, who have their final fixture of the season on Saturday 28th April, 3pm KO versus Leatherhead, at Longmead Stadium, Darenth Ave., TN10 3JF have invited any Tonbridge Junior player wearing a club top to have free entry together with one accompanying adult.
