Chairman of Tonbridge Angels FC, Roger Maddams, has very reluctantly taken the decision to step down with immediate effect from his role. Elected unanimously 20 days ago, Roger, a self-employed chartered accountant working in the housing sector, has since received two substantial pieces of work involving a degree of travelling which means he would no longer be able to devote the time necessary to carry out the many duties and responsibilities of an Angels chairman.
Roger explains: “Since New Year my work load has increased to the extent that to try and juggle the multiple responsibilities at the club with my own occupation as it now stands, quite simply would not work and it is with great regret that I have no alternative but to step aside.”
Vice Chairman of the Board, Chris Drew said: “We are very sorry to see a person of Roger’s ability having to stand down but fully understand and accept his reasons for so doing. Although only on the Board for a few months he had already shown great aptitude in commercial and event planning and hopefully we will be able to continue to make use of his skills going forward.”
Steve Churcher who had stepped down as club chairman and director at the Owners Annual General Meeting on 21st December has been co-opted by directors and has agreed to become Interim Chairman. Chris Drew said: “The Board is very grateful to Steve for agreeing to step in at short notice but are also very much aware that this will be a temporary measure.”
Owners and supporters at the club should rest assured that the various initiatives outlined at the Owners AGM will continue to be driven forward with vigour by the directors including celebrations for the Platinum Season, The 3 Year Business Plan with its blueprint to increase attendances, and a programme of exciting events drawing the club closer to the community it serves.
Should any owner or supporter have any concerns, suggestions, or quite simply want to help the club in any practical way then please contact a Board member.
