A side comprising our U14s from last season won the Rusthall Fiesta. Todd Tyrie, their manager had this to say on Twitter in captioning the accompanying photo - ‘Winners of the Rusthall Tournament 2018. One team through to semis (lost on pens) our other team won it! Very proud of these lads.’
Dom Welsh, joint Manager of last season’s U13 also took to social media to describe how his squad performed over the two day event:-
‘On Saturday we had a mixed team of trialists and our current players and struggled to find a balance or rhythm all day, only having four fixtures didn’t help. We lost three and drew one. Poor day at the office.
But on Sunday we played a year up, with three trialists and four of the current lads. We drew two and lost five. However, we played some of the best football I saw all weekend at the tournament. Teams knew we were an age group below and bombed it long, which was disappointing, but every conversation I had today with parents/coaches from other teams, and even neutral spectators, were all positive about the manner in which we played and how well we competed. The competition was eventually won against our Under-14’s!!
We played three teams who play Kent Youth League football at Under-14 level, including two of Todd Tyrie’s Tonbridge Angels’ sides and even by the admission of the managers of those teams, we played better football and probably deserved more. But today was all about development and progression! I was very proud, best football I’ve seen us play!!
But in context, whilst Saturday was poor and disappointing, Sunday was superb in terms of what we were looking to achieve.’
Well done to all in representing the Angels with honour and success!
