Those of you with good memories will recall that Peter Elves, our head Groundsman deservedly won the FA’s Groundsman of the Year Award for 2018. However, anyone visualising that Pete would be returning from St George’s with a carrier bag stuffed full of £25k in used readies will have been sadly mistaken.
The actual conditions of the prize as set by the FA and sponsors Budweiser were that the £25,000 was to be awarded in the form of a grant for the purchase of equipment and materials for maintenance and further improvement to the pitch.
There are certain other conditions around using approved suppliers which we need to clarify with the FA.
The reality is that in the long term the club will benefit financially from this award and we thank the FA and Budweiser for this initiative and again congratulate Pete on his fantastic achievement.
Owners and supporters will continue to advised on exactly what and how the money will be spent.
