Very sad news has been received today 26th September of the passing of Republic of Ireland international Joe Carolan at age 81 who will be well remembered by our long standing supporters.
Joe played for the Angels between 1962 and 1968 making 424 appearances and scoring 50 goals. Although primarily a full back he could also operate at centre forward hence is more than respectable goalscoring tally.
He had previously played at Manchester United as part of the post Munich team, and Brighton and Hove Albion before coming to Tonbridge.
He was later to come back to the club as manager a position he held for 14 months and 76 games from January 1970.
All at Tonbridge Angels send their condolences to Joe’s family at this sad time and remember with fondness some great occasions at the old Angel Ground.
There will be a one minute applause at this Saturday’s home game against Bishop’s Stortford in memory of a fine player. It is expected that some of Joe’s family will be attending the match. Details of the funeral will be advised when confirmed.
