There was some news coverage last week of the possible development in the Tonbridge Farm area which would include some of the current car parking area outside Longmead Stadium.
The Leader of the Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council, Nic Heslop has provided the club with this statement regarding the position.
‘A small parcel of land at Tonbridge Farm has been included as a housing allocation in the emerging Local Plan, with a potential capacity for delivering up to 54 new homes (See Policy LP25 Site aa in the Local Plan document). This site, currently used for car parking, was considered as part of the Call for Sites exercise in the preparation of the Local Plan evidence base and featured in The Way Forward document, during the public consultation exercise earlier in the plan making process in September 2016.
The site is designated Green Belt, but exceptional circumstances for removing the designation are being made through the Local Plan process. No planning applications have been made or are expected in advance of the adoption of the Local Plan next year. The Council owns the land and in the event of the site coming forward for development in the future alternative facilities for parking would be considered as part of the planning application process.’
