Mike Knell reports from Longmead
Greetings from Longmead for this evening's clash. Important for both sides as they are both sides who have faint playoff hopes but they are both closer to the relegation zone at the present time - and those wolves must be kept at bay.
Teams to follow - interesting team selection too....
Angels - Worgan, Walder, Heath, Browning, Judge, Miles, Hill, Piper, Main, Suarez, Benjamin
Subs - Collin, Koranteng, Beecroft, Kember, Hagan
Boreham Wood (will be called BW from here on in)
Putnins, Sanfoka, Braithwaite, Cox, O'Loughlin, Beckles, Noto, Garrard, Bryant, Riza, Vilhete
Subs - Hutton, Bobjoit, Lechmere, Jones, Jordan
Two changes for the Angels, Main in for Koranteng and Judge in for Tim O
Hill keeps his place after scoring on Saturday, Benjamin will go out to wing no doubt and Main to partner Suarez
Frannie must not be 100% after his food poisoning, but a nice player to have come off the bench if things are not going well
I have an Angels legend assisting me tonight, the one and only Phil Emblen. Will be interesting to hear his thoughts, although I have heard I might have to edit some of his language :-) He is not currently with me as he is warming up his voice with a cold beverage.
You will know when he is making a comment as 1) Not only will it be more profound and insightful than the normal drivel from myself but 2) I will prefix his comments with the letters PE.
Boreham Wood had a good result 3-0 away to Maidenhead on Saturday but other than that their form has been indifferent. Two wins in last nine games.
Players to watch are Putnins in goal for BW, he is on loan from QPR. Also Vilhete who is on loan from Barnet. Not to forget Omer Riza who started with Arsenal and played for West Ham and Barnet as well as Turkish side Trabsonspor. Supposedly he scored a scorcher in the win against Maidenhead.
Subs are warming up - players will be out shortly.
Not too chilly tonight - very still also
Doesn't look like a big crowd - BW never bring many on a Saturday, let alone on a Monday night. Should be able to count them on two hands.
Mathematically the playoffs are still a hope - if they win every single remaining game they are in with a shout!
Will be interesting to see how Main and Suarez link up tonight
My summariser is still in the bar - blimey, he must be thirsty.
This is BW's second season in Conference South - last season they recovered into 14th after a poor start.
Teams are out.
Phil is here now.
BW players are playing ring-a-ring-a-roses for some reason.
We are underway
PE - They are lively this mob! (talking about BW)
Riza looking lively early doors
PE - They have a very good youth policy at BW and have a very good young side
5 mins - Nothing to note so far
PE - The lack of following that BW have will always hold them back
7 mins - Hill fouled on edge of box
Walder and Hill over it
Walder shoots over
Benjamin on left and Hill on right
PE - We have noone with a decent left foot
10 MINS - GOAL BW
Worgan clanger, he miskicked a clearance and Bryant finished
PE - Riza also played for Watford
Tackles flying in, this is going to be another tasty match
Garrard giving Hill verbal
14 mins - ANGELS 0 BW 1
PE - These guys (BW) have come through the youth setup and it's the way they do things, it helps because they play together for longer
MAINY OBSTRUCTED IN BOX - NOTHING GIVEN!!
PE - Blatant penalty, he was blocked
Mainy waltzed into the box but was obstructed, have definitely seen penalties given for that
BW look a strong outfit
19 MINS - They nearly score, Bryant header at far post hits ground and goes over
Alot of pace about this BW team - this reminds me of Sutton home
We have a score to settle for when BW killed our playoff hopes in 2010 - perhaps they will do the same again tonight
Browning with a long shot wide
23 MINS GONE - STILL ANGELS 0 BW 1
Angels fans getting vocal
Phil, been impressed by us this season?
PE - Yes but we have struggled to keep a settled side, with injuries etc and that makes a big difference.
Hill releases Piper who shoots wide - better from the Angels
PE - Great move but you've got to finish
PE - Been impressed with Judge this season, we are not the same side without him. Miles needs him and is improving all the time
30 mins - Benji with a good run but fouled. Angels trying to apply some pressure here
Riza with a good chance from a knock-down but he fires over.
CORNER ANGELS
Browning and Hill waste it, but ball played out to Benjy who fires wide.
PE - Our lack of finishing is not helping us
Very impressed with Angels faithful noise considering it's a Monday night and we are losing
CORNER ANGELS
Cleared
Heath just went in on a crunching tackle and is ok
PE - You do worry every time Heath goes in on a challenge, with that knee of his
37 mins gone, still ANGELS 0 BW 1
Suarez putting himself about and trying hard
Angels need to creat something special - a certain Mr Collin springs to mind
PE - Mainy need a few full games to get his pace back. Don't know if he will be as good as he was but I still believe he will be a good goalscorer, he just needs to stay matchfit
40 mins - Garrard shoots wide
41 mins - Riza shoots over
If Angels can get to half-time at just 1-0, they can regroup and go again
Vilhete shot blocked, corner BW
Worgan flaps and is cleared
BW CORNER AGAIN
Headed away
HALF TIME 0-1
Close game but BW are very quick and dangerous - a second goal from them and it'a all over
It was Heath with the backpass which led to the goal - but it wasn't his fault, was unfortunately Mr Worgan who the blame lies with. Can't criticise him for that, he has been superb at many times this season.
Let's hope Frannie is fit enough to make a contribution tonight
Suarez and Main are doing ok, but they are clearly a top two who have not played together much, plus Main is still getting minutes under his belt.
Koranteng is also a decent option for Tommy should he want to change things up
Teams are out
We are underway
Lots of long balls at the moment
Bryant with a looping shot but over
49 mins gone, 0-1
For those of you unaware, Phil's son, Neil, has been appointed Manager of New Zealand Olympic team
PE - He was appointed in November time, they offered him the job on the back of the success in charge of his league team. He doesn't play anymore, he only plays if they are desperate
Freekick on right side for Angels
54 mins - Benjy to take, gathered by goalie
PE - We don't look like scoring
Long range shot saved by Worgan
PE - Mainy needs to get more involved but they need to keep it on the deck for him. But it will take a while for him to get back to full fitness
Long range shot from Garrard, took a deflection, corner BW
Bryant tries a flashy volley but makes a mess of it
Angels fans trying to rouse their team
Good cross by Heath but noone on end of it
59 mins gone, 0-1
Angels trying to get it more out to Benjy
Hill went down, looks like he fell over his own feet
PE - There is a sniper out there
MAIN OFF - FRANNIE FRANNIE FRANNIE ON! 62 MINS
Angels have upped their game in last 5 mins and are putting more pressure on BW
Glorious chance for BW but Noto shoots wide
66 MINS GONE, 0-1
Freekick for BW 30 yards out, Vilhete is found in space but he shoots at Worgan
Garrard for BW has one of the biggest mouths I have heard. He gives his own team stick which opposing fans would be proud of.
Bw'S Vilhete down, stoppage for two mins
Frannie wriggles through and is fouled - but offside flag up
71 mins - Noto with a long range strike and not far away
BW goalie is down, is he feigning to keep time ticking away?
Still time for Angels to get something from this game. Just needs a Suarez flick and Frannie will be away...
74 mins - HILL OFF FOR KORANTENG
Judge with a good block from Bryant
Piper given a talking to
PE - He won the ball but he followed through
PE - We are not going to score here
PE - I would be inclined to move a midfielder farther up to get a goal back
Benjy pulled back, freekick on right hand side
PE - You can't blame Worgan for the mistake, he has been good during the season, but it's just one slip that can make the difference
Walder with a good run and strike but keeper saves
Looks like 8 BW fans behind the goal
Time running out, but Angels not giving up
Sonny with the header straight at keeper
84 mins - Lechmere on for Vilhete
PE - The ref has not been the best tonight
Piper gets through and clashes with goalie, but ball cleared
PE - Re this season, the name of the game is to stay up and consolidate
O'Lloughlin shaves bar with a header
86 MINS - CORNER ANGELS
BW counter attack, but Angels hold firm
Benji gets free down left, but inexplicably crosses to no one.
PE - He should have gone straight for goal, he has the pace. We can't afford to lose games like this.
90 mins is up
Linesman on near side has been poor - I won't repeat what PE just said
GOAL GOAL GOAL FRANNIE
He only needs one chance and what a goal!! Miles played him in and a clinical strike!!
Fantastic end to game!
MOM - Lee Browning
FULL TIME 1-1
An even match between two mid-table sides. Angels deserved the point. Thanks to Phil for his comments - Good evening from Longmead.
Teams to follow - interesting team selection too....
Angels - Worgan, Walder, Heath, Browning, Judge, Miles, Hill, Piper, Main, Suarez, Benjamin
