U13s forced to settle for draw
High quality match is a good advert for youth football
This morning gave the U13's another chance to get some minutes under the belt, allow themselves to accustom their game to a wide Hadlow pitch.
In a game where we produced our best football to date the result didn't quite fall our way!
With a 2/3 boys away on holiday we took a slightly smaller squad to this fixture against a good Hythe Town U13 side. Angels began the game on the front foot but allowed Hythe to get a foothold in the game with a good 10 minute spell. Some good defensive tackles kept the game level. Our astuteness allowing us to grow into the game, playing some fantastic passages.
Our possession paid dividends when the young Angels played the ball all the way out from the left side, through the middle before Mike Hollamby produced a fantastic through ball to striker Dan Jones. Bearing down on the keeper, Jones managed to lift the ball over the keeper who did his best to keep it out, however the ball found its way in! 5 minutes before half time, we were forced to change 'keepers due to injury. Ryan Silk previously at left back took over the gloves as our second keeper!
A few changes given us two more out and out wide players allowed us to stretch the opposition, the second half showed further improvements keeping the ball for periods of the game! Jacob Hodges, Mike Hollamby and Finn Wolvey were excellent on the day and held down the midfield well!
Eventually the Angels defence caved in, a break down the right after losing the ball 30 yards from our own goal resulted in the Hythe Striker lifting a cross-shot over stand in keeper Ryan Silk. The Angels showed a perfect response, pressing hard and high forcing a goalkeeping error - Wolvey's pressure resulted in deflecting the ball to winger Isaac Barden who smashed in a half volley from the best part of 30 yards!
Moments later we had a goal disallowed for offside after another bit of fanatic play, Sam Mellish and Fin Wolvey linking up before Isaac Barden finished from an offside position. Now starting to put our foot on the gas, Frankie Lavington broke away showing a clean pair of heels, beating the keeper wide his effort rebounded off the post!
Hythe then seized the opportunity to level as we gave possession away cheaply on the half way line. Hythe punished picking up a second ball saved by Ryan Silk. With 10 minutes to go, neither Angels nor Hythe quite created anything more. 2-2 the full time result, a great game against a good footballing side!
Man of the match Jacob Hodges for a dogged and efficient performance in central midfield. However numerous fantastic performances, Dan Jones and Finn Wolvey amongst this! Ryan Silk very good when called upon having not played in goal for several months!
Another stepping stone completed and lots of positives to take!! Still unbeaten in 4 games!
