U13s win away at Kingshill
The boys in blue bounce back
After a disappointing result against Billericay and a few games called of due to absences , we faced up against a Kings Hill side who played a year up last season. A good test with the league fixtures fast approaching.
Having lost heavily in the previous friendly, the Angels kept tight and in a good shape for the first 35 minutes, creating two wonderful 1 on 1 chances for new striker 'AK' however a lack of composure found us 0-0 at HT, limiting Kings Hill to very few chances!
The Angels came out firing on all cylinders in second half , changing shape aiming to get the ball into dangerous area's when the moment arises! 'AK' and Ben Shields proved a constant threat in the second half. The bombardment finally paid off when sub Mellish went on a weaving run and was finally brought down in the box. Penalty award and up stepped Fin Wolvey. A well struck penalty subsequently found the bottom left corner with 20 minutes to play.
Kings Hill came back with a few chances of there own. Kings Hill played some fantastic passing football at times but didn't quite find the final ball. Angels defended well. Highlight of this was a crunching last ditch tackle from centre half Joe Wallis, preventing the striker going through on goal. Followed by a great save from 'keeper Matt Larkin, atoning for a poor pass out the back.
Kings Hill finally found the back of the net when a ball was lofted into the box and a clever flick on beat Larkin high into the top corner. This set up what was to be a superb final 8 minutes. The young Angels side never gave in, in the true spirit of the club! With 5 minutes to go 'AK' picked up the ball on the right side and picked a low cross to Nathan Kirkby who converted at the back post! The boys stuck to the plan and didn't panic when conceding so late!
There was even time for another goal with just moments to go! Tom Monaghan's defence splitting pass saw 'AK' quick out of the traps to finish pass the advancing Kings Hill 'keeper. The Kings Hill keeper made some outstanding saves one on one with 'AK' in the first half, but 'AK' wasn't to be beaten this time!
Full time swiftly followed, finishing 3-1 to the Angels. A good result to give us momentum going into the last two weeks of pre-season!
Man of the match was Alfie Dennis who filled in at left back today and was absolutely outstanding both on the ball and off the ball!
