U13s all square against Sheppey
Managers Dom and Callum pleased with result against a decent Sheppey side
Report from Dom Welsh and Callum Adonis-Taylor
The Angels start a new era playing the first U13 game at Hadlow on Sunday morning. With the sun shining , a hard bouncy pitch lead to a frustrating yet valuable outing.
Playing some good football from the back and being defensively astute gave us all the right foundations to go and attack. However on this humid Sunday morning we struggled to find feet, final passes often ran trough to the Sheppey keeper.
After putting some good moves together , the young Angels thought they should of had a penalty when Alfie Dennis was brought down by the keeper. The referee saw nothing wrong and waved play on. On 26 minutes a fantastic passing move from back to front lead to a corner. Tom Monaghan whipped a delicious ball into the box, the keeper decided to punch high into his own box allowing James Munns to nod home, putting the Angels ahead at half time.
Having regrouped at half time, a change of shape to a 3-5-2 gave us a chance to look at a slightly different shape. The gamble didn't pay off and Sheppey continued to press. Angels mustered two or three breaks early on leading to Ben Shields forcing the keeper into a mistake before bursting past him, only to find the keeper claw back and pull off a sensational save.
The visitors pressed hard, and the young blues rode the wave throughout the half with some great hunger and desire to block and tackle. However the pressure paid dividends, with 12 minutes to go an overload at the back post left Alfie Dennis in trouble. The Sheppey striker punished with a fantastic finish.
The final five minutes saw the Angels push more for the win , and almost created a late chance. Again the final ball lacking quality, the story of the game from an Angels point of view.
Special mention to the Sheppey goalkeeper who was outstanding on the day. Man of the match for the Angels , given to Harvey Lawrence for his solid defensive work on numerous occasions.
Lots to work on for this young side but certainly heading in the right direction. 3 games, 2 wins , 1 draw. 9 scored, 1 conceded. Plenty to be pleased about!
