Brave U13s go down to classy Fleet
More than worthy for a point
Our first competitive game as a newly formed team couldn't have been a tougher fixture. Ebbsfleet a side who gave dominated their league for a number of years away from home.
A lovely 3G surface at Wrotham School provided both teams with a platform for good football. Both sides throughout the game showed bits of quality, moving the call quickly and elegantly.
After a sloppy defensive start, the boys rightly so found themselves 1-0 down in the first ten minutes. The Ebbsfleet number 10 who was outstanding all game had the time and space to pick out the number 9 who took his chance brilliantly, a sloppy goal to concede!
However the boys grew into the game and had a great chance shortly after when Angels striker 'AK' chased down 2 defenders to disposes only to find his left foot effort smartly blocked by the 'fleet 'keeper! A sucker punch just before the half time break saw the boys trail 2-0. With 'keeper Larkin rushing out to meet a through ball, the striker got to it first. Although Larkin was able to recover to the 6 yard box, the Ebbsfleet 9 finished brilliant over his head!
With five minutes to go Ebbsfleet piled the pressure on forcing Larkin into 3 absolutely top drawer saves. Keeping us in with a chance!
The second half arrived and Angels looked more dominant beginning to play give and go's all over the pitch. The Ebbsfleet number 10 was still causing all sorts of problems, but we dealt with dangerous situations well. Goalkeeper Larkin in the Angels net pulling off another 2/3 saves that he had no right to get to.
With chances seldom, the golden opportunity had to be taken. Again AK rushing through after a fine ball from Lavington , he beat the defender on the by-line with Barden screaming for the call to be passed across the goal, the striker decided to shoot and found the side netting. When it was begging to look like one of those days where the ball just wouldn't go in, with six minutes remaining Angels finally found the net.
A cross field ball from our left hand side broke nicely for Kirkby who beat his man to the ball sliding AK through once more. This time the striker finishing excellent with a little dink over the onrushing goalkeeper. The Angels pushed hard for the equaliser but the goal perhaps too late!
A sting in the tale when 'fleet were awarded a free kick on the break. A long ball into the box was headed home by the home sides number 9. A 3-1 result probably looks like a more comfortable result the home side but the Angels boys worked Ebbsfleet hard for the win.
Special mention to the Ebbsfleet 9 and 10 who were both outstanding throughout the game, surely ones to watch!
Man of the match for the Angels goes to Goalkeeper Matt Larkin who made 5/6 unbelievable saves to keep us in with a shout!
A tough start to the season, with plenty of positives to take!!
