U13s emphatic win against Holmesdale
Another positive performance
This Sunday 29.10.17. saw us return to Hadlow after a run of away games, Holmesdale were the visitors. Holmesdale enduring a similar start to the season to ourselves. Having played all the big guns found themselves without a point in their first two league games , and out of both cups already.
Angels have endured a tough start with only 2 wins from 7 games. Albeit having played all of the top sides early doors. But there are positive signs from this side as the performances are now starting to pour through! Being able to pass the ball through the thirds starting from the GK is now a frequent pattern of play!
The warm up suggested that the Angels were fired up, popping the ball about brilliantly, however the game began and a very sloppy start allowed Holmesdale to go ahead in the 6th minute after a through ball split our defence in half and Holmesdale's Redmond finished well. Prior to the goal, Larkin did well in the Angels goal to save from close range.
This early Holmesdale goal seemed to relight the fire in the Angels belly! From kick off the ball went back to CB Joe Wallis , out to RB Jacob Hodges who popped it back inside to CM Mike Hollamby who was able to find a yard and turn , playing the ball into AK, who was leading the line alongside Frank Lavington who was next to take the set from AK , he punched a fine through ball to Ben Shields who finished clinically! This was an outstanding passing goal from the young Angels, a great reaction just 20 seconds after going behind.
After equalising, the boys found there flow, using the ball well with intensity, having worked on this week on week in training, its great to see the boys implement it on game day! Using AK's pace in behind as a threat forced Holmesdale to drop deep and allowed us to play.
Frank Lavington and AK both squandered great opportunities to go ahead shortly after the goal when bearing down on the goal. However it was Lavington who put Angels 2-1 up. A superb break from Tonbridge allowed the deadly pace of AK and Lavington to break through. Unselfishly AK squared the ball across the goal for Lavington to finish.
With half time approaching , the Angels knew that they needed to extend there lead, and did! This time it was AK being a selfish striker and slotting away his chance. A high through ball after some good build up play down the left from Ben Shields allowed AK to break through and finish smartly. The Angels weren't finished there. Minutes before the HT whistle Joe Wallis hung a free kick up into the box from the half way line, and the smallest player on the pitch Alfie Dennis looped in a backwards header from the edge of box over the Holmesdale 'keeper!!
HT came as the Angels were 4-1 up. However missing a host of opportunities was disappointing!
The second half started brilliantly, the Angels started the same way they had finished the first half! Immediately from the whistle the ball fell to half time substitute Fin Wolvey who was able to provide the pass for AK who was able to finish well again. His 8th of the season in what has been a tough start.
Angels scored their 6th goal shortly after, another outstanding team goal. The ball started from GK Matt Larkin, played out from a goal kick, with Holmesdale pressing high , Angels defenders Jacob Hodges and Harvey Lawrence played out well finding CM Joe Wallis, he played a great through ball to Fin Wolvey, he unselfishly square the ball around the final to AK for the hattrick, however AK saw Nathan Kirkby with an even easier chance to score, he worked the ball past the GK allowing Kirkby to tap home! A fantastic team goal starting from our goal kick!!
Credit to Holmesdale because after this they piled on the pressure, pressing high with intent. Having said this the Angels still managed to create chances, two blatant penalty's were turned down by the ref. A Holmesdale defender caught the ball in one hand momentarily before shouting...'oops' !! The referee waved play on!! Moments later AK was almost rugby tackled by the same player...again no penalty. Two missed chances to add to a poor final 15 minutes from the Angels. With Holmesdale able to score a sloppy goal from a short corner to finish the game 6-2.
Credit to Holmesdale who pushed hard in the second half. Our boys just had more poise and quality where it mattered. An outsmarting first 50/55 minutes from the boys. Now getting even closer to performing this sort of football for the full duration of the game.
Man of the match goes to AK (Abdulahe Abdulquadir) for his two well taken goals, but more so for his unselfishness when he could have gone alone for his two assists! A great team effort however.
Our next game is away at Dartford in the last 32 of the Kent Cup, Folkestone await the winners! (10am KO 12/11)
Our next home game is K Sports on the 19th (14:00 KO) in the last 16 of the league cup, having beaten K Sports 1-0 in a great game in pre season, this could be one to watch!!
Two very important games coming up in cup competitions , very encouraging to see our performances improve!!
