U13s win away from home
Good defensive display but finishing can get better
This Sunday saw the U13's travel to an ever improving Greenway Aces. Although placed firmly bottom of our division... Aces have improved in recent weeks, and only narrowly lost to a strong Welling side last week. The Angels knew they weren't in for an easy ride and this showed.
A scrappy first 20 minutes saw very few chances, however the Aces keeper the busier of the two coming out to clear numerous through balls. On 21 minutes Angels did finally find a break through with a delightful through ball from central midfielder Alex Hamza-Goodcare who found quick forward Ben Shields who poked around the keeper and calmly slotted away! Angels lifted their game slightly and was putting the hosts under continuous pressure, however the score stayed at 1-0 at HT.
A few changes at half time saw Angels continue to create chances but not finish. Most unlucky on the day Abdulahe Abdulhakim (AK), looking to add to his tally of 16 goals this season probably could of had 7 or 8 on another day!
The Angels did break through again on 38' just after half time , a low driven Ben Shields corner eventually found its way to Centre Half Joe Wallis to hit home on the half volley. Now beginning to play some good patterns and move the ball quickly, Aces were frustrated and still unable to register a shot on goal.
Just 7 minutes later Angels added a third courtesy of a Frank Lavington goal, a shot blocked, Lavington took two bites at the cherry but finally volleyed home for 3-0. More of the same for the remainder ... a mix of luck, and poor finishing meant Greenway kept the score at 3. A few penalty decisions could have perhaps gone our way. And a 35 yard screamer from Ben Shields whistled just over. A frustrating day in front of goal for the Angels.
Greenway did hit back with a goal just before full time, a dubious free kick given just outside the box gave Aces a chance to swing a ball in, looking to clear, the ball glanced off defender Harvey Lawrence's head and into his own net. Greenway had a goal without having there own shot at goal!
Defensively a solid performance with GK Matt Larkin not having a save to make . All round good footballing display but finishing must be more clinical if we are to compete at the top end of the table next season! Another 3 points and a good performance!
MOM- Alex Hamza-Goodacre and Frank Lavington, two very good battling and skilful performances from the middle of the park!
