U13s finish season victorious

Final league placing of 6th

This weekend saw the U13’s play the final game of the season. A fixture vs Kings Hill who have finished the season a place above us in 5th! The fixture had to be moved to Kings Hills 3G pitch due to home ground problems!

The boys turned up in great spirit, after being 2-1 up at HT in the reverse fixture and loosing 5-2 revenge was high on the Angels priorities!

Angels yet again playing with a bare 11 . Starting with a back 3 of Walker, Hodges(C) and Wallis , backed up by ever present stopper Larkin. Energy out wide from wing backs Monaghan and Kirkby. Hamza-Goodacre, Hollamby and Lavington made up the central midfield , with AK and Andrade looking to cause damage up top!

The game started in a similar way to the first fixture, lots of Kings Hill possession, a very good technical side who are difficult to disposes. It took 20 minutes for the boys to get into flow, with neither goalkeeper having much to do. The 3G pitch was however giving a great surface for both sides to play great football.

23 minutes in and some good wide play from Kirkby drew a clumsy tackle from the Kings Hill right back, Kirkby dusted himself down and delivered a telling ball into the back post, Joe Wallis up from centre back on hand to smash home. 1-0 Angels.

This goal really sparked the Angels into life , now playing some great football, and defending resolutely without having any shots testing Larkin in goal. On the stroke of half time Angels added some comfort to the score. A long ball forward was flicked into a wide area by a Kings Hill player, Abdulhakim Abdulahe (AK) managed to dispossess the Kings Hill captain out wide drive into the box powerfully, and beat the on rushing goalkeeper! 2-0 HT.

The message of the day from the management was all about progression and enjoying the final game. Seeing how far we have come , and enjoying playing. This gave the Angels a freedom to go out second half.

Lavington hopped off at HT with an ongoing heel problem , therefore Angels had to start the half with 10 men. A change in shape, conceding the fact we knew it was all going to be Kings Hill , allowing them to keep the ball deep and keep a solid shape. With Monaghan also struggling with a hip flexor problem, he took a slightly more relaxed roll at right midfield to aim to protect him!

Just two minutes and 30 seconds into the second half and the Angels had left it until the last day of the season to score the best team goal of the season. A long ball by Kings Hill was neatly head down to Hollamby by Kirkby. Hollamby played a neat one two with Monaghan on the right before playing a pinpoint ball to the feet of Hamza-Goodacre, an outrageous first touch accompanied by a perfect through ball to AK saw the striker finish his second. An outstanding team goal which shows magnificent progression! 3-0.

Kings Hill hit back immediately, a poor goal to concede defensively. A lucky break for the Kings Hill striker , who managed to squirm the ball underneath Larkin!

The Angels found themselves down to 9 men for the following 10 minutes as Hamza-Goodacre took a hefty challenge on the knee. But some outstanding work in all areas of the pitch meant we got through this 10 minute spell without conceding. And we even managed to get ourselves a goal with 9 players on the pitch. A long clearance from Wallis saw the Kings Hill goalkeeper rush out 40 yards, he hesitated on the ball taking too many touch, AK saw the oppurtunity for a hat trick and nearly stole the ball with nobody able to catch him before knocking the ball into an empty net! 4-1. (48minutes ) Lavington now was able to come back on, as was Hamza-Goodacre, however down to 10 still as we looked to protect Monaghan from further injury!

The Angels defended superbly throughout as wave after wave of Kings Hill attacks were snuffed out. On 58 minutes The Angels struck again , again some neat play this time down the left side after determined work from Captain Jacob Hodges, who played a simple pass into Andrade , who beat his man and was left 2 v 2 on the break, he played a precise through ball to AK who went 1v1 with the GK , pushed it past and knocked home his fourth of the day!

A crazy 4 minutes followed with the boys becoming tired and perhaps slightly complacent, Kings Hill started to move the ball well. And on 56’ and 58’ managed to break through the weary looking Angels defence. Kirkby now struggling with an ankle issue... Monaghan decided he wasn’t going to let the team go down to 9, so he soldiered on as a second striker!!

Angels found a second wind and just 2 minutes after conceding , they were back on the score sheet with probably the most pleasing goal of the day. More good defending released a counterattack, AK lead the attack and poked the ball to hobbling Monaghan, his determination saw him go one v one with the goalkeeper who couldn’t keep out a powerful effort. A first goal of the season for a player with huge potential, after getting himself back on to help his team was well deserved and much to the delight of all Angels hopefuls!

The last 5 minutes saw us get back up to 11 players and thanks to an outstanding crunching tackle from Ilyas Walker at Centre back kept the scores at a thrilling 6-3!!

A proud management team. With proud parents and a happy team!

I couldn’t possibly pick one player who was man of the match today, Lavington hasn’t got much mention in this report but struggled on with a sore heel, and was absolutely outstanding in about 4 positions! But the whole team deserves man of the match, in what showed everyone watching how much we have come on as a team since last summer!!

Goals -

Abdulhakim Abdulahe (AK) 4, Joe Wallis & Tom Monaghan .

Special mention to AK who’s 4 goals on Sunday took him to 20 for the season, an outstanding effort in a side who took a while to get going in-front of goal!
