Angels Ladies make history with win
Anchorians Development beaten 5-1
Tonbridge Angels FC made their own little bit of history today when their Ladies side won their first ever competitive match 5-1 against Anchorians Development in the South East Counties Women's Football League Kent Division 1. Congratulations!
Tonbridge Angels' new Ladies team were in complete control of their first ever league match, racing into a 3-0 lead inside the first 20 minutes and going on to win 5-1.
Angels set the tone early with crisp passing and movement and took the lead after five minutes. Becky Janes reacted quickest to a weak goal kick and curled her shot around the goalkeeper. After a quarter of an hour the lead was doubled, Abbie Skilton's shot being blocked by the goalkeeper and Janes again scoring from the edge of the box, firing into the top corner. Skilton got her name on the scoresheet two minutes later, latching onto a through-ball from Courtney Smith and slotting home. A shell-shocked Anchorians were much more organised after the first drinks break but there was time for Skilton to put Courtney Smith through on goal to fire home for a 4-0 half-time lead.
Midway through the second half the visitors pulled one back with a fine long range effort that gave goalkeeper Ellie Brett no chance, but the Angels continued to dominate and Becky Janes eventually completed her hat-trick, cutting inside her full-back and beating the goalkeeper at the near post.
Next Sunday Tonbridge are back on home ground as they host Barming. Kick off is at 2pm at Tonbridge Farm.
