100% record comes to an end for Ladies
Ladies beaten by strong Maidstone Utd side
Tonbridge Angels' 100% start to the season came to an abrupt end when they were beaten by four goals at home to favourites Maidstone United.
Having faced the Stones in pre-season at the Gallagher and been convincingly beaten by double figures, Tonbridge were much better prepared for this encounter and despite missing a couple of key midfield players put in a tight defensive display for the opening 40 minutes of the first half only for increasing pressure and tiring legs to allow the visitors to take the lead, a speculative shot from 30 yards finding the top corner.
Maidstone continued to control the second half but were frustrated in their attempts to double the advantage. However the Angels were not without their own chances to level affairs and their best chance came 10 minutes from time, from a corner only for Beth Kemp to put a free header just wide of the post.
The home side were rueing what could have been as from the resulting goal kick Maidstone's striker was allowed a shot at goal from the edge of the box to make it 2-0. With Tonbridge pressing to get themselves back in the game, the third goal arrived from a counter attack before a fourth was added in the 90th minute.
