Our girls go through in Kent Divisional Cup
Four goals for Abbie Skilton as tie goes to extra time
Angels Ladies are through to the Quarter Final of the Kent Divisional Cup after finally seeing off Teynham Gunners in extra time.
The Angels are somewhat cursed by conceding early goals in matches and this was no different, with the Gunners taking the lead from their first attack after just four minutes. Teynham had arrived with just the bare starting eleven and defended resolutely thereafter, but Tonbridge having had most of the possession remained patient and finally breached Teynham's defence in the 29th minute. Poppy Gilden's through ball released Abbie Skilton who fired home.
Immediately from the restart the Angels lost possession and found themselves behind once again, but this time it would only take five minutes to restore parity, Beth Kemp heading home Skilton's corner. The hosts thought they had got themselves in front just before half time, when Becky Janes was adjudged to be offside when she converted Skilton's cross, but the free kick was poorly taken and Skilton lobbed the Gunners goalkeeper to secure the advantage.
Teynham levelled matters in the 53rd minute but just after the hour mark it was 4-3 to the Angels, Becky Janes' cross from the right being headed in by Skilton for her hat-trick. The visitors were not finished yet however and a shot from outside the box took a slight deflection and squirmed under the body of Sam Wright, sending the match towards extra time. Four minutes into the second period of extra time, Skilton scored the crucial winning goal and her fourth of the match with a driving shot from an angle.
Next Sunday Tonbridge are away to league leaders Maidstone United for a top of the table clash.
