Ladies hit five at Thanet
Moran and Underhill bag first goals for club
Angels Ladies returned to winning ways with a comfortable 5-0 win at Thanet Colts.
A second clean sheet in three games was an excellent bonus for a side which had been forced to travel across Kent with no regular goalkeeper available. It was down to skipper Beth Kemp (first half) and her deputy Kelly Moran (second half) to don the gloves and both performed well when called upon, although both were given little to do thanks to another faultless defensive performance all round.
In midfield the Angels welcomed new signing Alex Weston (previously with Sheffield United & Chesterfield) but it was her central partner Moran who made the fastest impact on the game, scoring the game’s best goal after four minutes. Moran received the ball 40 yards from goal and lobbed a stranded goalkeeper to score her first for the club.
Tonbridge threatened to double the lead for much of the half and eventually the second goal arrived on 31 minutes. Moran played in Becky Janes who calmly side-footed past the goalkeeper, and the same player made it 3-0 with another cool finish after receiving the ball from a Becky Saxby cross.
In the second half the Angels were able to bring on Courtney Smith and Lauryn Underhill who have both been recovering from injuries picked up over the summer. Underhill was making her competitive debut for the team and after having a shot saved and seeing another fly over the bar, she finally got her goal, and the Angels fourth, on 76 minutes. There was time for a fifth when Kemp cut in from the right and hit a fizzing shot at goal which the keeper could only help into the net.
After a string of away games Tonbridge finally get their home campaign under way next Sunday when they host Petts Wood Honeybuzzards. 2pm kick off at Tonbridge Farm.
