U21s defeated at Chatham
Despite result, there were positives to take away says Chris Wye
Mistakes were punished today. The first goal was scored after six minutes when we were caught dwelling on the ball allowing Chatham to break and score. The hosts added a second goal 10 minutes later when the ball dropped to an unmarked Chatham player three yards out who tapped it in. The third goal came after again squandering possession and despite desperate efforts to stop Chatham scoring they managed to break through and tuck home to make it 3-0 within half an hour.
With a few new players coming in again we took time get going but after the first half hour the shape improved and players settled in. After the break, and the chance to point out our frailties, we came out for the second half with much more intent and managed some good spells of football. Chatham managed to get a fourth on the hour after a spell of pressure.
With more intent going forward, which is a positive after recent performances we managed to create some chances of our own. Chatham scored their fifth after the ball was played in behind our defence and the full back was put under pressure resulting in a back pass that was never on,. Ibrahim Attiah Ceh, making his debut in goal, did his best to deal with it and keep the striker at bay only to see the follow up from the mix up ending with the ball being put into an empty net.
Despite the result, there were some positives to take from the game and into our next fixture on Monday against Sutton United U21s at Gander Green Lane.
