U21s remain unbeaten in league

Sevenoaks Town grab 93rd minute penalty to take share of points

The Under 21s squad turned up to Sevenoaks looking to build on the opening two wins but would face a well drilled young side and certainly wouldn’t have it easy. With Sevenoaks sitting top of the table after also winning both of their first two matches it would prove to be a good contest.

Angels had the first chance after just 5 minutes when Sam Jones rounded the keeper but couldn’t cut the ball back into the empty net due to the angle he was left with. A rather disjointed angels then began to fall foul of the long ball game Sevenoaks had adopted and were forced back more and more. Unable to keep possession adequately meant that Sevenoaks could get on the front foot. A long ball was played into the box from a free kick just inside the angels half and as the first bounce was missed the smallest player on the pitch managed to loop a header over Tom Day in goal and give Sevenoaks a half time lead.

Words of encouragement were passed during the half time team talk to try and gee up the angels as they clearly had more to give. It was within ten minutes of the restart that Sam Jones once again earned a penalty that he confidently slotted in with the Sevenoaks keeper going the wrong way.

At 1-1 and with their tails up the angels pushed on playing some near and tidy football and breaking the lines of the Sevenoaks defence. It was then Dominic Toussaint that in what seems to be trademark fashion broke through on the left and shot low into the net to give the angels the lead.

With an hour gone the match became end to end with both sides playing some attractive football and Sevenoaks should have scored however Tom Day, in Gordon Banks fashion saved from a downward header that gained applause from all including the Sevenoaks dugout.

Sevenoaks pressed and pressed to get an equaliser and it was to come, to the dismay of the Angels in the 93rd minute when the ball dropped from a corner, once again, to the feet of an eagerly awaiting Sevenoaks player to smash in. 2-2 the end result after playing the remaining 30 seconds of the match. Set pieces seem to be the Achilles heal at the moment so work on this to be done on the training pitch. Positivity though as a point away from home against the team topping the table is well received.
