Under-21's crack in six at Longmead
By Wink Tomkinson
Under-21's return to the top after demolition of Chatham Town
There were no slow starts this week as Tom Pearson scored within 30 seconds of kick off. Tom was with us to get game time after training with the first team and returning from injury.
Chatham kicked off and played the ball to the left full back whose touch let him down, Tom robbed him of possession and run through on goal to comfortably slot past the Chatham keeper.
The young Chatham players then looked very nervous and struggled to keep possession. The Angels wanted to capitalise on this and although not enough pressure was put on Chatham throughout the first half we still managed to gain a 3-0 lead by half time.
Ristel Benz scored the second goal with a header from a corner and Sam Jones then added the third with a composed low shot into the net after jinking past two defenders in the box.
The young Chatham team came out for the second half with a bit more intensity to their game. A foul on the half way line led to a free kick for Chatham that was launched to the back of the Angels’ penalty area and once again the first ball was not dealt with and the Chatham midfielder headed into the net.
The potential fight back was short lived as just a few minutes later Lekan Ejiwumni headed (nosed) the ball in, off a post, from yet another Angels corner.
The Chatham team never gave up though and managed to score again to make it 4-2, another set piece with the ball falling to the Chatham striker to drive in.
Changes to personnel then put Angels back on the front foot and a cross into the box was tapped in by Will(I am) Dumbili five minutes after replacing Dom Toussaint.
Charlie Dumas added the sixth goal with five minutes to go when he picked the ball up in the middle third, turned one player, dropped his shoulder and fired in from 25 yards out.
A pleasing result, however, we still have room for improvement and we will all continue to work and progress.
