Goalfest for U14s
7-0 win away at Bearsted
Angels travelled to Bearsted last Sunday for the first meeting between the two sides this season. The pitch was very narrow but the surface good allowing the ball to be knocked around well. Angels started with Gibb in goal and a back four of Smith, Balcombe, Murphy and Austin who were all superb throughout.
Angels started with a midfield trio of Howie, Tyrie and Hermitage with the narrow pitch allowing them to play with three up top Kent, Lansdowne and Wilkins. Angels made the perfect start, scoring within the first couple of minutes, a great ball out to Lansdowne who drove to the line and pulled back to the edge of the box for Wilkins to smash an unstoppable first time shot home. Angels started to then knock the ball around superbly , Gibb wanting the ball from throw ins and Smith and Austin always looking to receive the ball short and start play from the back. A fantastic passing interchange lead to an audacious back heel pass from Lansdowne that sent Kent clean through to smash against the bar and Angels were really starting to buzz. The second goal shortly arrived Tyrie sending Lansdowne through to fire home from an acute angle.
Bearstead rallied for a five minutes spell but Murphy and Balcombe stood firm with Smith and Austin sweeping up anything in behind and still continuing to start play off. Angels then added a third Howie forcing home a Lansdowne corner and then Lansdowne adding his second before half time for Angels to go in 4-0 up.
Second half and Angels continued to play football and it was really good to see them keep their shape despite the score line. Raffelt, Wilkins and Wates were now playing in midfield and they worked the ball out to Toby Kent who hit a magnificent cross on the run for Hermitage to meet with a full length diving header for one of Angels goals of the season. Angels continued to play the ball around Kent continuing to put some good balls into the box, Austin and Smith always on hand to give Angels the width. Angels then added a sixth Billy Kent driving through and finishing well and Lansdowne completing his fine hatrick to round off the final score 7-0.
It was a good performance by the young Angels team but next week they face a tough away fixture to Phoenix Sports who have already beaten Angels 2-1 earlier in the season.
