A first outing for the Under-14s new away kit and very smart they looked.
Tonbridge Angels Under-14s were edged out in a competitive friendly against newly-formed HF Sports Paulista, who are based in the Lewisham area, losing 3-2 on a another hot Sunday morning at Mascalls.
With both sides suffering unavailability due to holidays it was agreed that some players from a year older could be used. The Angels fielded four players from the Under-15s.
After going two goals down, the Angels responded with a goal from Elijah Oyekran before Paulista added another to go into the break 3-1 up.
The second half brought a fighting performance from the Angels lads who reduced the deficit with a goal from Dan Wates. They pressed hard for the equaliser that their efforts deserved but were unable to force one home, although it has to be said that Paulista were also kept at bay by a fine performance from a loan goalkeeper.
Dom Welsh commented after the game: “The boys put in a good shift today in tough conditions and we had chances to level it late on. Today was about fitness and performance more than the result and we can take plenty of positives.”
