Under-15s edged out in thriller
By Wink Tomkinson
No reward for endeavour at Sevenoaks
The Under-15s started very brightly at the excellent Bourne Stadium and looked very dangerous in the first 15 minutes but Sevenoaks soon got back on top. Sevenoaks were lightning on the break and bossed the rest of the first half.
It was no surprise they opened the scoring and the Angels were lucky to equalise just before half time from an own goal.
Angels changed formation in the second half and took the game to Sevenoaks but struggled to break through, Sevenoaks continuing to target the Angels left hand side with real pace on the break.
The home side added a second and third goal killing Angels on the break. Lawrence had come on second half following a spell on the treatment table and was looking very sharp and it was no surprise that he got his goal with a great finish to make 3-2 but, yet again, Sevenoaks scored to give themselves a two goal cushion.
Our lads rallied and Lansdowne got a goal to make 4-3 and make for a very nervy last five mins for Sevenoaks and, with virtually the last kick of the match, Howie was through on goal only for the linesman flag to go up. The referee frustratingly acknowledged that he was not offside and had to give a drop ball for the game to finish 4-3.
Sevenoaks very worthy of the win though and could have really put Angels out of sight in the first half.
