Angels battered by Chips
McKimm forced to take to the field
Angels became so short of players through injuries in this pre-season friendly at Bostik South Chipstead that boss Steve McKimm was forced to play the last eight minutes of the game although by then in truth the match was already slipping away from Tonbridge.
It had all started so well for the visitors with the award of a penalty in the 22nd minute after Nathan Elder was fouled in the box. Andre McCollin made absolutely no mistake from the spot. The Angels continued to dominate the half without creating too many clear cut chances. A sign of things to come occurred just before half time when Liam Smith was forced off the pitch but it was to get worse with Callum Adonis-Taylor substituted at half time due to ankle issues.
Despite that , the game appeared to be safe when following an Elder knock down from a McCollin free kick, Dan Thompson smashed an unstoppable shot to make it 2-0 in the 49th minute. Ten minutes later with all available substitutes apparently having been used, the Angels were reduced to 10 men due to McCollin unable to continue after he suffered a stamping.
The Chipstead fight back started in the 71st minute when a penalty was successfully converted by Callum McLean although he needed two attempts. Suddenly the hosts realised they were very much back in the game and in the 77th minute they doubled their account and levelled the scores with an excellent strike from Leon Echo.
As the ten men of Tonbridge started to tire the boss decided it was time for him to come on and help to shore up the gaps that were starting to appear in the defence. It was to no avail as Chipstead , with their tails up by now, grabbed the winner in the 85th minute.
Afterwards McKimm said: "Its disappointing to lose but availabitly of players for a number of reasons was very difficult this evening. I had to bring two of the U21s in tonight and to their credit they did very well and didn't let anyone down. With the injuries however we simply ran out of players and Chipstead were back in the game. They have some good players and I back them to do well in their league this season. "
