Angels heartbreak as Rebels score twice in stoppage time

Visitors edge close contest
A dramatic ending saw Worthing take all the points as they came from behind with two stoppage time goals.
The visitors had the better of the first half with Angels goalkeeper Jonny Henly having an outstanding 45 minutes continually thwarting the lively Worthing forwards. Tonbridge’s cause was hardly helped with an enforced substitution after just 17 minutes when defender Callum Adonis -Taylor had to be replaced by striker Nathan Elder resulting in a reorganisation of the home side’s defence and midfield.
The Rebels Isaac Newton saw three decent chances saved by Henly while in the 42nd minute Reece Myles-Meekums audaciously attempted to lob Henly from 45 yds but the effort hit the woodwork.
Tonbridge during the first period were largely restricted to half chances for Alex Akrofi, Joe Turner and Xavier Vidal and will have been grateful to have reached half time still level pegging.
The second period saw Tonbridge taking a more assertive approach to the game with Xavier Vidal forcing two excellent saves from Lucas Cavagnari and they took a deserved lead in the 62nd minute when Turner converted Bantick’s freekick.
But Worthing never gave up on this match drawing level in the 90th minute through Newton and with a visibly tiring Tonbridge defence they took all the points seconds later through Ben Pope. Even so, Angels Nathan Elder somehow managed to miss an open goal for the home side deep in stoppage time.
